Now in its tenth year, the 5 Under 40 awards spotlight the hottest emerging talent in high-end residential design in New England, including architecture, interior design, landscape design, and specialty design such as textiles, furniture, or home accessories. Each year, the 5 Under 40 winners partner with presenting sponsor Landry & Arcari to design their own one-of-a-kind rugs, all five of which are auctioned off at the awards ceremony in September. All auction proceeds go to Barakat, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based nonprofit dedicated to providing exemplary basic education in Afghanistan and Pakistan that advances literacy and increases access to secondary education, primarily for girls and women.

As Kyle Hoepner, editor-in-chief of New England Home, notes, “For ten years now we have been calling attention to the work of New England's most promising young professionals. And the fund of up-and-coming talent continues to amaze: there are so many gifted, hardworking people creating beautiful, beautifully crafted homes, landscapes, fabrics, tile, lighting, and so on. Taken all together, they spell out a bright future for residential design across our six states.”

Kathy Bush-Dutton, publisher of New England Home, adds, "It has been amazing to see the 2019 5 Under 40 winners bond together in support of each other like never before. Since their first meeting at the rug design seminar in early March, they have formed an interconnected supportive group, boosting and helping each other during the rug design process and more. It was wonderful to witness this continued camaraderie last night as we toasted to these five super-impressive 2019 5 Under 40 winners."
